Latest Spreadsheet?

This is version 9.4 of the Ozburn Spreadsheet. It's the latest I have, if you have one that's a bit more modern let me know on the group or leave a comment with a link.

Repost From Midoztouch, explaining K1W1's thoughts on Ozburn.

Posted by DeadEyesOpened: Ozburn, what does the future hold?

I've been looking through Britburn's website and forum, OMG what a project, every charting hit from 1952, every B-side, every label scan, every cover scan, the mind boggles at such a project.

Have a look at http://www.britburn.co.uk

My understanding is that k1w1 is the main driver of Ozburn, his work so far has been excellent, and deserves the highest praise, such a task as Britburn is well beyond 1 man, well beyond 10 men.
If Ozburn is to do anything like Britburn then much more needs to be done by many more people.
Are the Ozburn people up to such a project? A huge collaborative effort is obviously required.

Lets have some input from Midozers!

DEO,

The sort of thing that "kirkm" has been doing with Britburn has crossed my mind for OZburn. The task is huge though, and quite frankly I no longer have the time or inclination.

In the short term i intended to to create an OZburn "B" Sides and Alternatives collection but even that seems like a huge mountain with my work and personal committements. And of course, OZburn will not be fully complete until Gavin Ryan releases his Hobart Chart Book.

Another thing i intended to do was to add a biograhy section to the OZburn spreadsheet.

For the project to really take on the same mantle as Whitburn & Britburn all off the overseas artists will need to be added to the collection. This in itself is a mammoth task. It took me nearly a year to manually compile the OZburn charts just for Aus & NZ performers. Of Course doing this would take the project out of scope for Midozer's.

Even though I initially started the project, many people from this site and around the world have contributed. In my mind it has always been a public domain project and i am happy for others to add and take charge of various additions and refinements.

Bottom line DEO. If you or others have got the energy and time to develop these other parts i have mentioned above, please go for it, with my blessing.

I fully support the idea of B-sides and alternative versions, and am happy to do what I can.

In my opinion adding the non-aussie artists would require 2 things, a re-number of all tunes, and massive dedication from a lot of people to track down the songs(and b-sides), for me this doesn't seem to be a priority when the Aussie tracks are yet to be completed. For me label and cover scans would be a higher priority than completion of O.S. artists.

Any word on the Hobart chart book from Gavin?

The Biography section is an excellent idea and worth exploring further. I see the spreadsheet format is well set up for this.

Completion of the O.S. artists is perhaps something for the coming years if it is to be done at all. Personally, I like the idea of keeping it Aussie, as many of the OS tunes would be simply duplicating the Britburn and Whitburn collections.

So far my contribution has been limited to a handful of songs posted on the newsgroup, and only very recently.
I know others have contributed much more than I have, and of course your incredible work in putting together the spreadsheet and collecting the mp3s is is appreciated by all. I know my listening experience has been enhanced by hearing all of these incredible Australian artists that I and many others might never have had the opportunity to hear.

I would be happy to set up a website, something like Britburn, perhaps over at blogspot or I could get it hosted somewhere, with the latest spreadsheet available for download, perhaps some details and news on the project, wants, scans etc. Maybe a little publicity could assist with the completion?
Easily done from my perspective. Of course I would continue to contribute any missing songs I come across, as well as b-sides.

k1w1, if you could please contact me via email, I would be happy to get this rolling.
